Salt Lake County is not giving $35 million to the Sandy RSL stadium.
Mayor Peter Corroon is a surprisingly tough guy. Good for him.
He stood up to pressure from the Utah Legislature's most powerful figures, the very powerful Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan as well as other County bigwigs like Councilman Randy Horiuchi.
I think he's currently winning major points with SLCo voters.

Does the word "press release" mean that you got the information first? It is a very well written post! If the major continues to make these kinds of decisions, he will be a great asset to this county for a long time.
Hey, great blog, man! Thanks for making my season tix worthless. And, since I know Important County Persons read this--RSL fans will remember these tactics when Mr. Miller wants to build a Major League Baseball park in Utah.

well for those who were proponents for the "stadium only in SL", you have your wish, there is no stadium in Sandy.
but be careful what you wish for, there may be no stadium at all which means, no Real Salt Lake.
and for what it's worth, Mr Caroon, just lost my vote.
memo to rsl hooli: your season tickets already were worthless. It's just not that fun to watch the home team loose in a cruddy soccer league (though I think the quality of play will only get better).
I would guess Mayor Corroon waited to see how the new season would start out. Saw that RSL wasn't going to draw big fans and quickly realized that ponying up money for an underperforming bussiness venture didn't make a lot of sense.

Honestly though, a team that cannot put butts in the seats, and cannot win any games is not going to be around all that long. Doesn't matter where they are. Bravo for Caroon for having the juevos to call a spade a spade here - no public funds for a crapshoot at best.
The team needs management and (especially) a coach who at least APPEAR TO CONVEY a desire to win. After that happens, come ask for my money again, and then we'll talk.
So 16,000 fans a game doesn't mean squat, huh? Or are you believing everything you read in the Trib again? FYI--RSL's (average) attendance is 6th in the league after two home games. The Trib had us at 10th in the league using total attendance in week three (after some teams had played three games and we had played one). Nice to see RSL getting a fair shot here in Millerville. I realize you all don't get it, but you just shot Salt Lake's chances of getting any other major sports franchise in the foot for a good twenty years. Again, bravo. Well played.

Utah is a very narrow minded place that only seems to think that NBA is cool- even though our Jazz are boring to watch.
