Too Good For Utah
I once ran into a woman who said she wasn't going to vote in the city election
because she only votes in important elections. You know, the Presidential election.

I applaud people that put their money where there mouth is politically (according to legal and ethical limits, of course). But actually becoming informed and voting is at least as important as voting with your money.
There are a lot of people who hold strong opinions about national leaders and issues, but who don't even know who sits on their city council.

This year we've got about 16 senators (and a few potential senators)that feel local elections are pretty important.
Some of these races will be won or lost by a few hundred votes, maybe even less.
I don't personally consider myself a democrat for two reasons. First, a Dem in Utah would be a Republican in any other state. Second, Dems in Utah are more concerned with fighting each other than joining together and trying to win. That being said, for the last decade, every campaign cycle, I have worked a campaign for a liberal candidate in Utah that I believe in (I do believe that you have opposed some of them in the past). Mostly we lose. We still stand up for what we believe in. To do any less is irresponsible.

I am sure I would be a Democrat in any other state too.
It seems to me that the Dems are alive and well in Utah.
there are lots of people that don't vote down ballot nor in "off-year" elections, both Democrats and Republicans (and Utah's 'independants'). This is because they think the President of the US is more important than city or county council. What many people forget is that on a day to day level, state and local officials are the ones that make the biggest impact on your life.
That's why I vote in every election possible and give money to my preferred candidates via ActBlue.
